Happy Sunday! We have nearly made it through January!! Depending on which part of the business you are working in / wanting to be working in, things are either very busy right now or a little scary (media friends, I am looking at you) but despite the news these days, there are lots of great positions out there. I hope you find something great in here today!
NOTE #1: The podcast How to Work in Film & TV will return with a new episode next week. I will be interviewing Production Manager, Kelsi Russell who is currently in prep on Pretty Little Liars Season 2.
NOTE #2: Next week’s newsletter will be coming out on Monday instead of Sunday. So look for a new list of jobs Monday, February 6th.
And if you want a quick way to share this with someone, please spread the word!
Ok, lets get started…
LINGO OF THE WEEK:
Day Out Of Days (DOOD) The Day Out Of Days is a document that the AD (Assistant Director) Department issues that tells you what days an actor/prop/vehicle is working in the schedule. Here is an example…
SW = Start work - REESE starts work on Monday, November 3 / Day 1 of Shooting
SWF = Start Work Finish - in other words, the actor starts, works and finishes all on the same day / aka a “Day Player” - RUTH & DIRECTOR & BEN are Day Players
H = Hold - they have the day off but will be working again later in these schedule
WF = Work finish / last day
In addition to being used to keep up with actor’s schedules, one of these is often created for important props, cars, and stunt players. Now you know!
JUST SOMETHING HELPFUL…
Tired of watching the same stuff?? Its January and we are all spending a lot more time inside streaming content. But if you are like me, I have really seen the algorithms take over my life lately. It seems like Netflix has been pushing the same things on me for months as if there aren’t thousands of other choices. I was at a friend’s house the other day and was shocked by how different our recommends were! Also on YouTube - look yes, I watched a climbing video someone wanted me to see one time two months ago and now its like all climbing all the time.
If you are feeling the same way, FastCompany put together this great guide to resetting recommendations on the web and your phone (typically the same for Android and iOS) for YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, Peacock, and Paramount+.
How to start fresh by resetting algorithms for YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and more
Let’s start over - new year, new you!
